Venue 88 offers hotel and catering services in General Santos City. It appears that they focus more on catering services, as they have more event spaces than hotel rooms. Because it is easily accessible and ideally positioned in the city, its location is ideal for any kind of event.

 

Parking lots make up the majority of the landscape, which is essential for any venue hosting an event. Thus, this is definitely not a good alternative for you if you're seeking a location to unwind. If several events are held on the same day, you can only imagine how packed it will be and how little privacy you will have. You should also take into account the possibility that if the pool is allocated for an event, you might not be allowed to use it. However, the hotel is ideal for a little getaway from your regular schedule.

THE EXPERIENCE

We got a good deal when we booked the standard room in October. Instead of the regular rate of Php 2,388.00 a night with breakfast for two, we were given their weekend promo rate of Php 1,888.00.  It was fair rate for us given that we were only there for a night to make the most of the holiday that week and enjoy the pool.

The front desk staff appeared to have no knowledge of the rate that was given by the reservation team, as he charged us with a different promo rate, which was higher than what was agreed upon. But he was able to rectify it without any difficulties; you just have to be mindful of the details on the check-in form before signing. Also, all that was provided to us was the room number and the key. We had to proactively ask about the breakfast, as in other hotels it is standard to inform the guests of what time it will be served and what to expect. 

I would say the room was within the price range that we had paid for. It was spacious, clean, and complete with basic room amenities such as toiletries, coffee, water, and a smart television, while the comfort and shower rooms were divided by a glass. The wireless internet connection was quite good in our room as well.

Our primary reason for booking the hotel was the pool. When we inquired about it at the front desk, we were told that there was an event and it may not be available to use, but we never received a definitive response as he was not certain as well. When we approached the pool staff directly, she confirmed that it would be open the next day.

Though we were a little disappointed, we accepted it because we should have checked before making the reservation. But when we came back from getting our dinner, we noticed another guest using the pool, so we had to inquire again at the front desk just to be told otherwise. It showed a lack of communication between departments, which they will hopefully improve in the future.

Their menu offers a good selection of food items as well, but since the prices were on the expensive side, we opted to buy food from outside. The included breakfast was plated, so there was a menu to choose from to be paired with either coffee or juice. We were also given a complimentary fruit shake. It was a regular, but decent breakfast. Take note that the breakfast menu was just written down on paper; I think it changes frequently.

In spite of the mixed experiences we had, it was somehow, overall, a good stay. I suppose giving their employees more training in customer care will enhance the experience for their visitors.
